We're back to featuring more outstanding artwork from talented artists!
I've been meaning to feature this piece for a couple of days now.

"Leftover wine" was created by Sentimentum, a fellow redbubble artist.
She has a number of stunning pieces in her redbubble portfolio, but this one immediatly attracted my attention. Was it the subtle light? the dark backround? the reddish colour of the sherry... the reflections in the glass? or the fact that it is broken?

I would say, all of this..... and proves to me that simple things work. The whole piece conveys an atmosphere of subtle tragedy. And I really love the blend of colour in this work.
Our eyes are very quickly drawn to the "leftover" sherry in the glass due to it being the only dash of colour in the picture.

I could see this picture hanging as a canvas on a white or light wall.

Please click through to view her work on redbubble and to see what others think of the piece.
Leftover wine can be purchased as a Greeting card / postcard, Photographic print, Matted, Canvas, Frame or a poster.
A quick blog post inspired by my activities over the past hour.

As you can see ...... it's about copyright. Yea, I know .... the whole copyright thing may be a pain to some. But to many of us, it's literally a bread winner.
I don't want to rant or anything but being an artist myself, i've formed very strong opinions about the whole issue of copyright.

Imagine this. In the current recession, after laboring for an hour or so over your work, you host your work online; hoping, quite rightly, that your loyal fan base would appreciate what you produced ( this could be music as well as drawings, digital art, etc) only to find not long after, someone's gone and copied your work and used it to benefit themselves commercially.

The effort and time taken to do that is surely less than what the artist put forth (their heart when in it too) and yet..... the artist would earn less than they would have done.
The knock on effect of this, sadly, is that the loyal fan base that the artist generated over time would also lose out.
Why do I say that?
Well...... not all artists are well off, they may need to take on part-time work and thus reduce their work output (less work in less time for buyers), some artists haven't even got as far as developing their own fan base yet, if their work get used by others, they may not even find their feet, or it would take longer.

Lastly, it now takes artists longer to create and upload because, alas, they now have to research into the best ways to protect their artwork online and then to implement what they learnt to individual pieces. Like I said earlier...... I've spent an hour already.

So, a quick post. Don't see this as a rant, just see it as the other side of the debate on copyright and why it's needed.

At least for our peace of mind .....

See you next time when I review more digital art!

Procrastination and laziness is a blogger's nightmare!

It's also a reader's nightmare, so a quick apology for the lack of posting in recent months. I promised you guys a new artwork to review this week .... and so here it is!

This is one of my own pieces, taken on a coffee table (Macro shot). The marble was rendered into HDR using Photomatix and sharpened in Gimp.
I used Photoshop elements to bring out a watercolour effect to finish it off.

I called the piece "Old Friend" for a special reason. This battle-scarred marble is the sole survivor out of a collection of marbles from my Junior School days. Just looking at the marble now brings it all back.

What do you guys think?

Until next time.....

Having gone over this blog recently, i've seen progress from my initial plan and ideas to what it's become.
I originally started this blog with the idea to showcase my digital art but now, it's grown to reviewing other artist's digital work (and photography of course); and this is the continued direction for this year.

I've noticed that my posting have been infrequant in recent months. Starting from this week, I'll be reviewing more artwork. From now on, there should be at least one a week; so keep visiting to see more amazing pieces of art.

In other news, i've just started up a new blog for those of you who like manga (in fact, i've got two planned). I've recently started trying my hand in drawing manga (and anime) artwork. So if you're interested, head over to 'My manga journey' (a journal of progress - step by step).

See you in the next post,

"Enclosed" was created by the artist Purplecactus from Marburg, Germany.

This is a truly beautiful piece. Great colours, and an interesting contrast between the foreground and the background. Everything seems to go well together and it captures the imagination.

This work would look great on the wall in a home; perhaps a home with a light red wall.
This work is currently available on redbubble as a Matted print, Laminated Print, Mounted Print, Canvas Print, Framed Print, and Poster.
For those who are not interested in wall hangings, you can purchase the print as a greeting card instead.

(please note, availability is correct at the time of writing this post).

Purplecactus has other excellent artwork in his redbubble portfolio, and so it is well worth checking out!

Purplecactus also has a Zazzle store, a twitter account, a blog and a facebook page.
There are a lot of really good pieces in her portfolio, among them are some interesting angry birds characters that should please a view fans!

This piece stood out to me as it is a great concept. Having watched the last Doctor Who episode, this image reminded me of the plot line of that episode. And, may I hasten to add, that I'm a fan of the modern series.

This artwork is sold via redbubble as a sticker and as a T-shirt.

"Power" was created by the artist Scott Ferman from Colorado Springs, United States. It was a real struggle to choose one of his pieces to feature in Digital Art as there are many amazing works of art in his portfolio.

I decided to feature Power as it really strikes me. its got a good blend of colour, designed to make an impact on the eyes. I really felt drawn to the centre, and was totally captivated.

Truly a powerful work of art.....

I really like this chair......
in fact I like the concept that the artist implements here. The shot was of an artist's manikin sitting in a chair shaped mobile phone cradle...... and, get this! it was taken with a nokia N8-00 mobile phone!

Post processing involved a conversion to black and white with adjustments to contrast and brightness.

Absolutely love this. The artist has made a series of shots involving this process, so its well worth a look. This is my particularly favourite shot.

Meet the latest artwork to feature on my blog's wall! I love this photograph.... it's not everyday that I feature photography on my blog, but this definitely deserves to be featured.

Yesterday's trees was photographed by the artist Wendy J. St. Christopher from Texas, USA. Photographed at Garner State Park, Texas.

The photograph really appeals to me... I love the country, and I would love to lose myself out there in the fields and woods. Coming from me, being born and raised in a City like London, I know that's not something I can do very often, but this photograph at least reminds me of the country and it's beauty.

Please check out Yesterday's trees via redbubble as well as the artist's redbubble portfolio for more of her talented artwork.

Also, Wendy maintains a blog where she provides further insight into her art which is well worth a read!
Ruins was created by the artist Justin Minns from Colchester, United Kingdom. I was honored to have been given permission by the artist to feature this work in my blog as, looking over his portfolio, he is a very talented photographer.

Ruins appeals to me for several reasons. First, as I've mentioned previously on this blog, I really like the sea-side and the sea in general. Second, I love history. Third, I love sunsets and sunrises. This piece has all three!

As I'm sure that i've mentioned many times by now, I'm really interested in History and transportation, and I live in London. So it really shouldn't be any surprise to any of my readers why I decided to feature 'the Number 11.'

The Number 11 bus route in London was one of the routes to withdraw the popular iconic London Routemaster bus from regular passenger service, the last operating day for these buses being October 31st, 2003. The rest of the fleet were withdrawn in 2005.

Now, save for two heritage routes in Central London (The Number nine and Number 15), the entire fleet of routemasters were replaced by modern buses (in my opinion, there's really nothing special about the modern replacements except for the bendy buses....... they're just all the same with no spark!).

This particular routemaster bus is even more special than the others as it hasn't been refurbished with the rest back in 1990 (that's a story for another post -- stay tuned!).
The 1990 refurbishment was of the interior, leaving the outside exactly the same as when the fleet was launched in the 1960's.

This was rendered in HDR tone-mapping using photomatix, 3 exposures from a single jpeg file and post-processed using GIMP.
I lowered the saturation a little to make it a little more realistic after the HDR treatment while preserving the details and reflections of a tone-mapped image (as best I could!).
Afterwards, I sharpened the image to further increase the details and lines of the image.

Let me know what you think of the routemaster!........

By the way, If you liked this short summary about the routemaster in London, you'll love reading my other blog, Through the eyes of a Londoner! where I discuss the City and the things inside it in greater detail!

Until next time...
In his profile on redbubble, he has several pictures from the heritage site in St. petersburg, Florida, US.
"Make hay while the sun shines" was created by the artist David Haviland from Australia. It is currently the artist's most popular work and it features hay barrels drying in the hot australian sun.

The photograph was taken at the Hume Weir near Albury, Australia, New South Wales.

I've never been to Australia myself, but i've always been interested in the country. I love the rugged harsh terrain in this photograph, and this to me, seems to characterize what I know (I don't have much knowledge on this subject) of the Australian outback.

There is a lot of love for this photograph on redbubble already, and there has already been a few sales!

Keep an eye of more of David Haviland's work for more images of Australia's beauty.

"Enlighten Me" was taken inside the Natural History museum in London late last year. The Natural History museum is an architectural wonder, with stone facades and features modelled after the natural world.

I came up with the title after I sat and thought about the museum and the light radiating off the stonework. We naturally go to a museum to be enlightened, or, to put it another way, to gain knowledge. Thus, the title was my way to tie in what could be seen in the picture to what the purpose of a museum is.

Let me know what you think.

I like the title, as it appears to me to be a description of two things --- One, the colour is prominent in the background, setting the tone for the subject.
Two, the image conjures up loneliness, depression and misery.... We could say therefore that the character here is "Blue", or depressed!

Given all that rain, is there any wonder?

I really like this, and had to have this image featured in this blog.
The image was created using HDR tone-mapping via photomatix (check out his description notes for the full process information).

I really like this picture, the colours and textures are well brought out using HDR. The image itself, of a warm and cosy kitchen, looks like an old rustic period kitchen (it probably is!-- I haven't checked with the artist) from the last century.

Totally love it. I've only just gotten into HDR tone-mapping myself, and so I can't give an expert opinion on HDR processing and the like, but it's from artists like James Rollins that I draw inspiration from.
"Another Red Pill" was created by the artist 'Redtempa' from London (my neck of the woods), and he photographs in and around London.

Looking over his profile on redbubble (mostly black and white Photography), I discovered "another red pill", a shot of the Lloyds building in EC3.
I rather liked his description beside the picture too where he has a quote by Noam Chomsky.

What is called ‘capitalism’is basically a system of corporate mercantilism, with huge and largely unaccountable private tyrannies exercising vast control over the economy, political systems, and social and cultural life…

Noam Chomsky

I like how Noam's quotation sets the theme for the artwork above.
The Lloyds building looks sombre, almost menacing......Corporate!

On a side note here.... having lived in London myself all my life... London has an impressive array of office buildings, well worth it to take a look when passing through!
Most definitely, keep your eyes out for more of redtempa's London art!
"Pier and Waves" was captured by the artist 'CavyGirl' from the United States, and the work was taken at 'Seaside heights, NJ.'

I've chosen this work to feature on my blog as I've always loved the sea, and I like black and white photography.

This particular piece stands out to me. I can almost feel myself sitting there watching the waves lash past the pier posts. The song.... "Sitting on the dock of the bay" comes to mind too!

On the same day that I took the picture of Tate Modern, I also took this shot of St. Paul's Cathedral and the Millenium bridge. I actually took quite a few shots as I wanted to capture the right moment.

This was edited and processed using GIMP (and paint [yes, the cheap free version bundled with windows!] --- to remove a few hot pixels).
Throughout my secondary school days, I used to take this bus every day during the mid-week. I loved the freedom of getting on and off at any time while the bus was stationary (dangerous, I know -- hey, I was a kid!). The London routemaster bus really is iconic. It has been copied by other cities around the world, and some old relics have a new life in these cities!

Here is another shot of the routemaster bus, number 9 route. Top deck.

This is one of my earlier works that I decided to go over again in HDR. I used photomatix for the tone-mapping process and touched it up using GIMP.

"Starbucks by the Dock" is located in St. Katharine's Dock, which is just past the tower of London (just east). Well worth a visit!

I never wrote about the original uploaded work in this blog, so if you're interested, take a look at the original here.

I'm sure you'll agree with me, the new HDR version looks better! (well, I thing so anyway!)
